Instructions for the 2002 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program

WHICH REGIONS ARE ASSIGNED TO APPLY?

Visa are apportioned among six geographic regions based on immigration rates over the last five years, with a greater number of Visas going to regions with lawer rates of immigration. For purposes of mailing in your application, the regions are divided as follows:

AFRICA
Includes all countries on the African continent and adjacent Islands.

ASIA
Extends from Israel to the Northern Pacific islands, including Indonesia.

EUROPE
Extends from Greenland to Russia, including all countries of the former USSR.

NORTH AMERICA
Includes the Bahamas.

OCEANIA
Includes Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and all Countries and islands of the south pacific.


SOUTH AMERICA/CENTRAL AMERICA/CARIBBEAN
Includes all countries south of the United States.

ENTRIES DEAD LINE

Entries must be received between noon on Monday, October 02, 2000 and noon on Wednesday November 1, 2000.Entries received before or after those dates will be disqualified regardless of when they are postmarked.


STEP ONE: CAN I ENTER?

You are not eligible to apply if you were born in one of the following countries: For 2002, the ineligible countries are: CHINA(Mainland and Taiwan),INDIA,PHILIPPINES,SOUTHKOREA, VIETNAM,POLAND,UNITED KINGDOM and its dependent areas(except Northern Ireland),CANADA,MEXICO,JAMAICA, ELSALVADOR,COLOMBIA,and DOMONICAN REPUBLIC. Native of Hong Kong and Northern Ireland are eligible to enter

STEP TWO: DO I MEET THE EDUCATION OR TRAINING REQUIREMENT?

Applicant under the diversity program must have either: .A high school education or its equivalent; defined as successful completion of 12 years education comparable to a U.S. high school degree, or .Two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years training or experience; U.S.Department of Labor definition will apply.

STEP THREE: HOW DO I COMPLETE AN ENTRY?

.Only ONE entry may be submitted by for each applicant during the registration period. .Submission of more than one entry will disqualify you. .There is no special application form. Simply provide the following information on a plain sheet of paper, typed or clearly printed in the English alphabet.

ON A PLAIN SHEET OF PAPER INCLUDE:

1. APPLICANT'S FULL NAME LAST NAME should be underlined)
Last Name, First Name and Middle Name EXAMPLE: KUMSA WUBE -----

2. APPLICANT'S DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH
Date:Day,Month,Year
EXAMPLE: 15 November 1958
Place:City/Town;District/County/Province;country EXAMPLE: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia


3. NAME,DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH OF APPLICANTS SPOUCE AND CHILDREN(IF ANY) If you are selected, your unmarried children under 21 years of age and your spouse can also apply for Visa.

4. APPLICANT'S FULL MAILING ADDRESS: This must be clear and complete, as any communications will be sent there. A telephone number is optional, but useful.

5. APPLICANT'S NATIVE COUNTRY IF DIFFERENT FROM COUNTRY OF BIRTH See Mailing the entry instruction


6. SUBMIT A RECENT PHOTOGRAPH Of YOURSELF: preferably less than six months old, Photograph of yourself, 1.5 inches (37 mm) square in size, with your name printed on the back. The photograph not a photocopy) should be attached to the entry with clear tape--do not use staples or paperclips


7. YOU MUST SIGN THE APPLICATION IN YOUR NORMAL SIGNATURE. Failure to personally sign your own entry will disqualify you.


MAILING THE ENTRY

Submit Your entry by regular or air mail to the address matching the region of your country of nativity. Entries sent by express or priority mail, fax, hand, messenger, or any means requiring receipts or special handling will not be processed.

FORMS TO FOLLOW

  • . Postcard are NOT acceptable, neither are envelopes inside express express or oversized mail packets. In the upper left hand corner of the envelop you must show your country of nativity, followed by your name and full return address. Failure to provide this enformation will disqualify your entry. In the upper left hand corner of the envelop you must show your country of nativity,

    The mailing address showing your country of nativity should look like as follows:

    However, if you were born in Ethiopia and now you live in one of USA State, you may submit one entry to the appropriate Zip (Postal) Code for North America and the envelop should look like this:
